Unlike England and France, where the traditions of classical etiquette are carefully preserved and passed down from generation to generation, the traditions of Russian etiquette, due to our tragic historical experience, were lost. Although at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Russian etiquette (the so-called “etiquette of the Nikolaev era”) was considered one of the most refined and elevated in world society, our traditions included both those imported from the West and those originally Russian, stemming from ancient times.
We want to show that we can be proud of our past, and that Russian historical etiquette is worthy of standing on par with French and British etiquette.
We specifically developed a course on Russian historical etiquette, engaging with historians and descendants of the Russian aristocracy to help us restore lost knowledge and traditions.
This course introduces guests to all the intricacies of pre-revolutionary Russian etiquette, and tells about its evolution and development.
